Music of the Spheres

Essay

Your essay, which must not exceed 2000 words in length, should contain a good degree of specific musical illustration. This may be in standard music notation format, via graphic scores and/or via audio examples.Note that your essay must consider different material from that included in your seminar presentation, and may fall under any historical era deemed appropriate. As always, choose your essay title/topic carefully. Something you are generally interested in is a good starting point, but make sure there is literature/research attached to the topic. If specific literature doesn’t exist, it may still be possible if you are able to apply critical and literary theory to the musical analyses (and could make for very original work!). Essays with very thin bibliographies, little research and no critical applications do not tend to be very successful. This is a research paper, one which needs to demonstrate a lot of background reading, as well as specific examples to back up your points.
